A chronicle of talent, tradition, and community in Canadian shooting sports, culminating in the passing of Bill C-21, the law that reshaped the sport and jeopardized its survival.
|
From The Firing Line follows lifelong marksman Glenn Goodwin as he reflects on his decades in Canada’s target shooting community and the challenges it now faces. The documentary explores how Bill C-21and the handgun ban have led to the slow “death” of the sport. Blending interviews, archival visuals, and personal storytelling, it serves as both a tribute and a call to preserve a fading tradition.

Behind The Scenes
Meet The Team

My name is Ian Armstrong and I am the director of From The Firing Line. I am so excited to get to share this story with everyone, this is a close issue to me having many family members in the sport. I look forward to spreading more awareness of the community and issues inside it. My grandfather has been participating in shooting sports for as long as I can remember and I am very honored to be able to help support something so important to him in all the ways I can.

My name is Ben Dashwood and I’m the colourist of From The Firing Line. I know nothing about the sport. The only time I’ve ever shot a gun has been in GTA (and I’m NOT talking about the Greater Toronto Area). The sport seems really fire (pun intended), and I’m excited to see this film come to fruition.

Hi! My name is Lucas Swangard and I’m the producer of From The Firing Line! When I was given the opportunity to work on this documentary I jumped at the it. Despite that fact that I know little to nothing about the sport, Ian is extremely passionate about the project and that’s the kind of director I want to work with, so I’m excited to get started!

Hi I’m Amy de Vos, the writer of From the Firing Line. I wanted to be apart of a project that I had no expertise in to challenge myself and so I asked Ian if I could help out. This is a story that means a lot to Ian, and in turn it means a lot to us, and I’m so happy I could work on it!

Honestly, I had no clue what I was signing up for when I was asked to do location sound. BUT, I’m super excited to be a part of this doc. I get to learn more about a sport I’ve never heard of before, and I get to do the challenging process of recording sounds of gunfire.

My name is Keagan Squire and I am the editor of From the Firing Line. I wanted to work on this project because I really know nothing about gun sports, and have a general dislike of firearms. I hope to gain the ability to open my eyes and appreciate the non-violent sport of shooting competitions.

Hi my name is Noah Atrill and I am the director of photography. What drew my to this project was Ian's passion for his film and the sport. I really excited to learn about a sport I know nothing about |
Hi! I’m Abeer Syed, the Assistant Editor of this amazing project. What drew me into his project was how unique this sport is, I also been to a firing range once in the past so it was nice to work on something I had some experience with! |
Hi my name is Dylan Dinning and I am the digital media manager. I was very excited to get this role and promote this film so everyone can see it as I believe it is shining light on a very niche and interesting topic.
