Roads Between Us is a short portrait documentary that follows retired truck driver Paul Ehgoetz as he reflects on a lifetime spent behind the wheel and the toll it took on his family. Through candid interviews and personal reflections, the film explores the emotional and physical sacrifices Paul made to provide for his loved ones and how the demands of long-haul trucking left him and his children estranged. By posing the central question—what is the true cost of providing for the ones you love?—the documentary delves into themes of family, sacrifice, and the irreplaceable value of time spent with loved ones.

Growing up, I often heard stories from my Papa about his experiences as a trucker when my mom and uncle were young. He would speak fondly of those days, and with this documentary, I wanted to capture the feelings and atmosphere that defined his life on the road—a tribute to his lifelong commitment to his work. However, his career also had a direct impact on our family, as my mom and uncle have shared how his time on the road often kept him away from home. This inspired me to create a documentary that reassures people they’re not alone—families and bonds can endure and even grow stronger through challenging times. |
I decided to work on this project because I love to see the hardworking people who help make our world go around and get the appreciation they deserve. Blue-collar work is physically and mentally taxing there for I am happy to be a part of a project focused on appreciating our blue-collar heroes. |
I decided to work on this project because Matthew is my boy and I love working with him. Any project he’s involved in I’m always happy to help. Family is everything to me. At the end of the day, family is all we got and is the reason I keep going. Matthew is basically a brother to me now and I’m happy I got to support him through the making of this project. |
I decided to work on this project to get out of my comfort zone and do something a little more challenging than what I would initially do. As someone who specializes more in post-sound, I wanted to test my own skills in the location sound world by working on a set that was far different from the rest -something that had a lot more obstacles in the way to test my recording skills. Family means everything to me. I come from a rather big family that is always in each other's lives; without my family, I doubt I'd be the same person I am today. |

Being apart of a Kinovision Production was more than enough reason for me to want to join this project, that being said, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t hooked by Paul’s story and Matthew’s passion for this material. Family to me, is about being held when no one’s holding you, it’s being home without being home, to have or make a family that loves each other is the goal, and Paul’s story of reconciliation is inspiring and emotional. |
Passionate about helping others bring their stories to life through the sonic spectrum. Took interest in this project because of care for those who become estranged of their parents/children. Family is an important part of functioning in life, whether biological or found. |
I was excited to work on this project because it was something outside of my usual aesthetic choices as a creative, but I wanted to see if I could push my boundaries. I really resonated with the passion of this project, portraying a family who struggled but, in the end, stayed family because that is what family is all about! I am proud to have partaken in such a heart wrenching yet heartwarming story. |
Working as a landscaper for the past 7 years, I have an appreciation for the blue collar workers across the world including truckers. I think their story is very important to tell because they have to give up a lot to provide for their family. |
I decided to work on this film because I'm really good friends with the crew and its important to me because of its take on family and time, what truly matters in life. Its necessary to work to provide for those you love, but it needs to be balanced with spending time with them. I find how this film shows the loneliness of its subject to be profound and the hopeful nature of moving forward with him finally finding the love in his life, the togetherness to be really beautiful. Family means a lot of things to me, a safe space, people where if you fall in life they're there to catch you, a group of people you love with all your heart, and there's a couple people on this crew that i would consider that, family. |
I took an interest in this project since family is a major core part of my life, and I would love to help in any way I can to help share an amazing story about someone's family. |
I worked on this project because I've worked with these guys before and it was fun. I don't know anything about the film yet so I'm excited to discover more about it while working on it. |
I decided to work on this project because I love the people working on it and am invested in learning more about trucking and the donkers family. |
Although I may have never worked a job similar to a truck driver, my grandfather did for years when he ran pulp mills. He would spend endless hours driving from location to location making sure that the whole process ran as it should, sometimes making him miss important times with his family so he could provide for them. These are the true unsung heros of our economy and they deserve so much more appreciation and recognition than they currently get. Which is why I am extremely proud to be a part of this production, as it finally gives people like my grandfather the recognition they deserve. |
I decided to work on ROADS as it let me do something different, something grounded in authentic human emotions one cannot find in fiction that's accessable only in documentary format. This project to me represents a way of thanking the generations before me for the legacy that they've left behind and the support they've given throughout the years. Family to me is both memory and love, a group of people coming together to express a deep care for one another and contribute their support to each other unconditionally. These people whether by blood or friendship are the very foundation of who we are and who we'll become, and they're awesome. |
As a professional photographer I find great joy collaborating with other creative mediums such as film. I Came from a family of doctors my mother was a powerlifter and my father was a dentist and the curator of Dr Aruns Photography and vintage camera Museum he won the Guiness world record for the largest film camera collection in the world. being the only artist in my family the support of my grandparents really helped me overcome the obstacles in my journey and kept me motivated. There is lots of wisdom one can reap from the elders of our community and knowing this I try my best to connect with the elders of society and learn from their experiences. When I was approached to do the BTS for the film I was excited as I took it up immediately and I was truly impressed with the level of professionalism with which the team operated it was a great experience and I am happy that this production is sharing a beautiful story of a senior of our society. |
