Light Heavy Light
Grief is a hard feeling to comprehend, but through dance, Melissa JJ Moore encapsulates this shared human experience through a three-act dance show raising money for an organization dedicated to children with a lost parent.
Light Heavy Light follows Melissa JJ Moore as she uses dance as her outlet for emotional expression. Through her annual remount charity show, which goes by the same name, Light Heavy Light, she expresses grief compellingly, leaving the audience with a heartwarming message: Be kind to everyone because you do not know what they may be going through.

Behind the Scenes
The Production Team
Hi, I’m Karolina Lewy, the director of Light Heavy Light! For the past four years, I’ve attended Melissa’s dance show, “Light Heavy Light,” supporting the Lighthouse for Grieving Children. The dance show touches upon grief, loneliness and the feeling of being able to pass through those emotions. Being allowed to share not only Melissa’s vision and her dancer’s talent but also the charity’s message through this documentary with my wonderful crew has been fantastic, and I hope this story reaches people and gets them to potentially go out and watch Melissa’s dance show and support the charity!

My name is Rowan Lindsay, and I’m proud to be the producer of Light Heavy Light. I’m excited to be part of this production, as it beautifully explores themes of grief and acceptance. Grief has been a significant part of my life for as long as I can remember; my father is a funeral director, I lost my older brother when I was a baby, and later, my mother became the grief coordinator at Heart of Hastings Hospice. Through these experiences, I’ve come to understand the importance of processing grief, and I believe this documentary captures that journey through the powerful medium of dance.

Hi! My name is Jonathan Guinto and I’m the Director of Photography for “Light, Heavy, Light.” I am truly honored to partake in sharing Melissa’s story, where actions can speak louder than words. It was enchanting to see such genuine passion and resilience in using an art to influence future dancers. I was delighted to collaborate with such skilled people on this documentary, while creating captivating visuals for all to see. I think this film and Melissa’s story will deeply connect with audiences and aspiring dancers alike.

Hi my name is Jasmine Newlove and I’m the 1st Assistant Camera on Light, Heavy, Light. I’m excited to work on this documentary because it opens the conversation for grief and how different mediums can convey the different journeys someone might have.

I am Alicia Foley, and I have had the pleasure to work along side this wonderful documentary; Light, Heavy, Light, as the role of being a Second Assistant Camera. I am excited to be part of this project, and working with an amazing crew! Grief is a very serious topic, and it is very difficult to navigate through life after a loss of a loved one. Especially as a child, it can all seem confusing. The 3-act dance show truly represents the emotional roller coaster you feel your on when dealing with grief, yet it is expressed through dance and music, which can be much more powerful than words.

My name is Parker Zapp, and I am the production sound mixer for Light Heavy Light. I have had a great time working on this project both because of my fellow crew members and our director Karolina, and it has also been a pleasure to be able to learn about and hopefully promote the great work that the Lighthouse For Grieving Children and JJ Dance Arts have done.

My name is Sarah Ginn and I'm the Script Supervisor and Data Management Technician (DMT) on Light, Heavy, Light! I'm excited to work on this documentary because it deals with the incredibly difficult subject of grief, something that people often avoid talking about, through the medium of dance. I was particularly interested by the 3 act structure that goes through the different emotions someone feels when going through such a difficult time in their life, and the heartfelt message the performance leaves you with. One thing I wouldn't take for granted is my family. My mom recently had open heart surgery and I've been struck with my own kind of grief during the situation, and feel like I could gain something from the performance too. |
The Post Team
Hey! My name is Dylana Rudolph and I am the picture editor for Light Heavy Light! I feel so honoured to be a part of this production, learning about the message of the performance and everything that the Lighthouse does for those in need has been incredible experience. I was a dancer for a number of years and the story that these performers are telling is an incredibly moving, being apart of bringing it to the screen has been an amazing and I’m so proud to be apart of this incredible crew! |
Hi, I’m Meng Lian. The Assistant Editor of Light Heavy Light! I am very honoured to be a part of this production. I am very touched by Melissa and her dancers’ passionate performance. Dancing is not a art form to convey emotions and comforting people but also to help others by contributing the revenue to the Lighthouse for Grieving Children.

Hello there! My name is Juan, I’m the sound editor for Light Heavy Light. I’m excited to be part of this project, not only because of the director but also because of the sincerity of the people in frame. I have a weak spot for local heroes, specially those that get to do so through their own passions, and this documentary seems to blend the line with all those aspects! The one thing you should never take for granted is your people, whether it’s your family or your friends, never take those who love you back for nothing. Take every chance to make them feel loved just how they make you feel the same way. |
Hi! My name is Dylan MacNeil and I’m the VFX artist for Light, Heavy, Light! You shouldn’t take new opportunities for granted. All the Lighthouse does is amazing and the expression used for such a great cause is incredibly inspiring. Such a great project to be involved in. |
Hey my name is Mitchell Denison and I am the colourist for Light Heavy Light. I am grateful that Karolina asked me to be a part of this production and I'm glad that I get to bring her vision to life through colour, or should I say the lack there of? One thing I believe we should never take for granted is our ability to feel, good or bad, feelings are essential for us to grow into the people we are today and the people we will be, every moment shapes us and it's very easy to overlook that. |
Hey! I'm Griffin Hook and I'm the composer for Light, Heavy, Light! As someone who uses both dance and music to express what words can't, this film truly captivates the meaning of what transcending emotion is. I'm incredibly thrilled to be part of such a talented crew and amazing project, alongside combining multiple aspects of my own life into one beautiful work. |
Hi! My name is Ronnie Bechard and I am the transmedia producer for Light Heavy Light. I’m excited to work on this documentary because the themes of grief discussed in the Light Heavy Light dance performance are super important, and it’s collaboration with Lighthouse Grief make it something I am excited to help document. One thing you should not take for granted in life is time. Time is not something you can get back, so whether you’re spending time with loved ones or just relaxing after a long day, never take the time spent for granted. |
