'Darkroom Diaries' follows a photographer, Paul Hodgkinson, as he shoots and develops an original still life image using traditional film photography techniques and equipment. Throughout this process Paul discusses the importance of why he actively chooses to continue these historical techniques as a self employed artist, despite the laborious process and challenging financial returns that are often associated with the craft.

As a lifelong family friend of Paul, I've always admired his work as a photographic artist and have been interested in learning about the alternative and historic processes he uses for his artwork. I love all things film photography, and am excited to share Paul's story as an artist, and his gum bichromate printing process to everyone!

Usually, I like to curate and develop my own stories, but once I heard Olivia's vision for this film, I knew I had to help bring it to fruition. The one thing that drew me to this story is that it is one of passion. We meet Paul's passion for his craft with our own as we put his great artwork on display. I am a person who loves filmmaking and chose to participate in the making of this documentary because I also love the process of film photography. As a film photographer myself, I found the subject of this doc very interesting. When Liv first pitched the doc to me, I had never heard of the techniques Paul uses to develop images so I was very intrigued and wanted to witness the process first-hand. The making of the documentary first apealed to me for three reasons; The creation of art. The lengthy process and Pauls dedication to his craft.

I chose to work on Darkroom Diaries because I have always been very interested in film camera's and the development of film. Paul's art is unique and this intrigued me to both learn more and become involved in demonstrating visually: his practice. This documentary is set in a beautiful rural home and the subject is so warm and kind. I am so excited for Paul's story to be shared.
