Our Island Home

A youth worker and high school teacher unpacks his experience moving to a small town in Papua New Guinea with his family in the adventure of a lifetime.
Our Island Home retells the story of a young missionary couple who left Canada to live in Papua New Guinea in support of Bible translation. Here, they studied melanesian Pidgeon and mentored the youth of other missionaries, all the while raising their four children.

When they felt called to serve, a young missionary couple leaves behind their Canadian home to start a new life in Papua New Guinea, where they support Bible translation and raise their family.

When called to serve in Papua New Guinea, a young missionary couple leaves behind their Canadian home to start a new adventure where they worked with youth to support Bible translation and raise their family.

Hey! I’m Isabelle, the producer for “Our Island Home.” I’m happy to have helped preserve this bit of Hooper family history, and hope that it’ll be kept as an heirloom for future generations; it’s the kind of thing I would love to have.

My name is Sabrina Nguyen and I am the editor of this film. I would love to arrange visual evidence with the interviews. To try and effectively present the message trying to be persuaded in a visual manner. I hope that this film can make people think about where their families come from and seeing what it's like to live in a country with a completely different culture.

My name is Ainsley McCracken and I was location sound on day 2 of the shoot! My favourite part of working on this film was getting to hear all the stories Paul and Libby had to tell, and learning about the uniqueness of their journey and family. I’m most excited for viewers to understand that there are so many different ways to live life and raise a family and that there is no one way.

My name is Eve Copeland and I was the location sound recorder and mixer on day 1 of the shoot. My favourite part about working on this project is seeing the sense of family and togetherness of both Leah’s family and our crew. I am most excited for viewers to see how Leah has portrayed the importance of family, caring for one another, and that taking risks can lead to some of the best experiences of your life.

Hi my name is Anastasia Sakellis and I am in charge of the sound design and mixing for this film. I am excited to create and portray the feelings of togetherness that Leah’s family makes. In hopes that the audience will gain the confidence to try new things and not be afraid to dive in head first.

Hey my name is Adrienne Eagleson and I am the Transmedia Producer and the Assistant Editor for “Our Island Home”! I am so excited to be a part of this documentary and share the story of Paul and Libby! I think it will be a heart warming documentary that many can relate to. Through transmedia I wanted to introduce Paul and Libby and create a theme that represents their time in Papua New Guinea.
