An exploration of 3 young men’s inner turmoil’s with body dysmorphia in the fitness industry
This short documentary will follow the fitness journeys of subjects Abuzar Haider (Community Coach of Brock University Sports), Marcos Urbina, and Jacob Luneberg (Each aspiring teacher’s of physical education). Abuzar and Marcos voice their stories of body dysmorphia growing up and narrate how their mental health has been affected with this in fitness and sport. Jacob provides an investigative approach to how he remains positive in the gym, as well as how social norms of men through media introduce certain toxicities in the environment. With these 3 men who are all active in the fitness industry, this film displays how body dysmorphia affects certain individuals in contrasting ways. The goal of Frame of Mind is not only to bring awareness and education on body dysmorphia, but to make the audience aware of the social state of male mental health.

My name is Marcos Urbina and I’m in my 3rd year at Brock University. I am currently studying to be a Phys-Ed and biology high school teacher. I have a passion for fitness and have been doing competitive sports since I was quite young. I have been lifting for about 7 years, taking it seriously for about 2 years now. I started having body image issues when I was in middle school and it is something that has continued with me to this day. I hope this documentary can share our stories and shed a light on the issue that is body dysmorphia.

My name is Jacob Luneberg. I'm in my third year at Brock University in concurrent education with hopes to become a teacher. I've never been too involved with sports until I discovered weight training and fell in love with the gym and the lifestyle that comes with it, and I hope that the positive outlook that I have towards the gym can help others who may be struggling with their body image or their fitness journey.
