Meeting Richard is the story of a young college student, attempting to ‘meet’ his late grandfather through various archived photos, videos, and interviews with family and friends. ​

Premise

In the time of a global pandemic, separation and loss of connection is at an all time high. Meeting Richard follows college student Willem Lachance on his personal journey to learn about his late grandfather, Richard Lachance. Willem does this by interviewing Richard’s immediate family via Zoom, and by watching archived videos and photos. ​

Willem Lachance​
Hello, I am Willem Lachance. I am the Producer, Director, and Writer on Meeting Richard. I'm in my third year of BFTV at Sheridan College, specializing in writing. I have loved film for as long as I can remember. I have wanted to learn more about my family, especially my late grandfather, for quite some time. This short was a challenge due to the pandemic situation, but with the support of my family and crew, we were able to get it done successfully. I feel very grateful, and lucky, to be able to share my story with you.

Zachary Viola
Hi. I'm Zachary Viola, and I am the DOP, Camera Operator, and Set Decorator on Meeting Richard. Being able to visually create this doc was very exciting and insightful. I got to work with a great Director/Producer which definitely made a stressful process fun. Due to Covid-19, this has been such a learning curve to create the perfect look while still being safe. Within this doc you will feel the mix of family, as well as distance, not only though the characters but as well as the visuals. Hope you all enjoy.

Hi! My name is Storey Rode and I'm the Picture Editor for Meeting Richard. I've been really excited to work on this project because of just how interesting I feel it is to meet someone through film. I never got to meet one of my own grandfathers so working on this project has been a cathartic experience in it's own right and I'm hoping that you enjoy learning about the man I've met through many impactful interviews while trying to do service to his memory in only six short minutes. I hope you enjoy.

Hi, I'm Andrew Knaggs. I'm in my third year of BFTV specializing in Sound Editing and Sound Design. I was interested in working on Meeting Richard because I think family and the stories that are told among them are relevant and vital to keeping ancestors and family traditions alive. This project is especially interesting because you are able to be with Willem as he discovers more about Richard than he has ever known and, I think, becomes closer to his family in the process.

Hi, I'm Katie Bowyer. I am the Head of Transmedia for Meeting Richard. I'm in my third year of BFTV at Sheridan College. I was really exited to get to work on this documentary and help to share Willems story. I have always liked documentaries and it has been great to create transmedia pieces that can go along with one. Working with and collaborate with Willem on this project has been really fun. I really like that we can add more to the story and get more people interested in it. I hope you enjoy.
