Two Columns (One light pink and one orange). Column 1: explore ALISHA SOLOMONS. a photo of Alisha looking out over the water, as she sits on the beach. Canada 2020 - In 2020, Alisha Solomons began her third year of film production at Sheridan College and was told to pitch a documentary. “From the Boat” is her chance to learn about her father when he was her age. After not knowing his story, this is her chance to know more. Childhood photos of the entire crew are shown (same as in crew bio pics below). Canada 2020 - To help her, Alisha soon recruited Kara O’Donnell, Ibnul Sarker and Sky Kearley to assist in this project. This formed the crew of “From the Boat” and development and pre-production begun. A split screen photo of Alisha and her father. Canada 2020 - On October 25, Alisha sat down with her father and had a two and a half hour long conversation about her dad’s story. This was the first time Alisha learned about everything her dad went through. Canada 2020 onwards - After speaking with her father and her crew, Alisha changed directions on the documentary. A chance to explore her father’s story, now extended to a chance to explore hers. Her reactions and thoughts as she processed the information and the connections between her and her father provided a new base for the documentary. This is “From the Boat”, a story of Alisha discovering her father’s past, and the connections they share. The other column begins with explore HAROLD SOLOMONS. A photo of a young boy standing in front of a house. Sri Lanka 1984 - In 1983 a civil war between the Tamil and Singalese people broke in Sri Lanka. Switzerland & France 1988 - From Germany, Harold traveled to Switzerland where he held a job at a restaurant. It was in Switzerland he set his sights on coming to Canada. However, forced to leave Switzerland after his VISA was rejected, he ended up in Paris. Here he grew a cassette collection because the music helped with his lonliness.
