And Yet, I Bloom...

A young black woman dives into the internalized effects of living in a predominantly
white town, finding solidarity and community among her fellow peers of colour through their
shared experiences.​

And Yet, I Bloom... is an intimate profile of young POC who grew up in predominantly white Ontario towns. The film follows Eden Alcia, Travis Fonderson, Taylor King, Akash Lail, Melanie Matsubuchi, and Alisha Solomons, as they recall their childhood and teenage memories of living in these towns, and how an inner conflict was sparked by the external factors they've encountered throughout their lives due to their race. Through the commonality of their experiences, these six young adults find a safe space for their stories, and decide to see the strength within themselves. With their ever-growing determination, they are ready to face the world head on, despite the odds stacked against them.

The Team

Carly Krieg - Producer

​Carly is currently in her fourth year at Sheridan College. Having spent a year obtaining her certificate for Media Fundamentals before getting accepted into their Film and Television program. Now, in third year, she is focused on writing, directing and producing. She one day hopes to become a show-runner for an original series.

Eden Alcia - Director 

Born and raised in Southern Ontario, Eden quickly noticed that she was one of a small handful of young POC amongst her fellow classmates, and felt isolated from her peers throughout her childhood and adolescence. She quickly found refuge in art, and is now using film as an outlet for her experiences. This young aspiring filmmaker hopes to create more art that explores deeply into emotion and the bittersweetness of the human experience.

Grace Munene - ​Director of Photography 
​Grace Munene is a third year film and television student who specializes in cinematography and editing. She is perusing her dream of working on music videos.

Alisha Solomons - Story Editor and Subject

Alisha is the story editor and a subject in Yet, I Bloom. She’s in her third year at Sheridan College for Film and Television, majoring in writing and directing. The intersectionality displayed in And Yet, I Bloom is incredibly important to her, as is the creator, Eden Alcia; and is exactly the type of work and representation she wants to create in her career.

Jamie Hilts - Transmedia Producer

Jamie is a 3rd year student in the Bachelor of Film & Television program at Sheridan College. Specializing in writing and directing, Jamie also has a professional background in social media PR. And Yet, I Bloom tells an important story that needs more attention, and Jamie hopes to use his social media skills to supply them.
