Two sisters celebrate the range of abilities of different communities by bringing all of their stories to light through their multi-platform organization TRU FACES.
See Us is a short participatory meets expository documentary narrated by Taylor Gaudon. The story follows Emilee and Hannah Schevers’ passion project entitled “Tru Faces”. “Tru Faces” is a multi- platform community created to generate a sense of belonging for anyone and everyone who faces the everyday challenges of living with a disability. This platform also provides opportunities for people to learn more about different disabilities and navigating the community.
Emilee and Hannah Schevers are two empowering sisters who strive to create a sense of belonging and community for those who face the everyday challenges of living with a disability. The girls grew up facing the challenges of their own disabilities in a small town called Peterborough ON, where they both felt a lacking sense of community and belonging. Fortunately, they had each other’s support, but outside of their sister relationship, they had no one. Once they got older they had the opportunity to go to W. Ross Macdonald (school for the blind and partially sighted) for their trial programs. It was through this experience that Emilee and Hannah finally felt a sense of community that they had been longing for. This experience happened to also be the driving force and inspiration in the creation of the “Tru Faces” platforms. They wanted to create a place where anyone with a disability could feel welcomed and a sense of belonging. They also wanted to provide a learning experience for those who don’t know a lot about what it is like to live with a disability and wanted to create a sense of awareness. To this very day “Tru Faces" still operates as strong as ever and is only seeking more opportunities to grow. |
