Social media adventure seekers are physically changing the landscape of some of Southern Ontario's key nature destinations and farms.
Sean Davis is one of the owners of Davis Feed & Farm Supply and Davis Sunflower Family Farm located in Caledon, Ontario. In 1989, his father started a feeding farm supply business where they produce and sell agricultural food and equipment. The Davis' have been growing sunflowers for over 12 years for the sole purpose to make bird seeds.
Sean noticed a growth of popularity with his sunflowers fields when drivers parked at the side of the road and take pictures. In the summer of 2018, they decided to open up the farm to the public. In a span of the two weeks, over 20 000 people from all over Ontario and even outside of Canada showed up. Davis Family Far went viral on social media. Now, Sean and his family are adapting to accommodate the crowds. Sean has transformed some of his fields to parking lots, planting corn walls for the sake of privacy, and adding extra facilities for the visitors. Each year he learns something new and uses that information to prepare for the upcoming summer. |
