Loneliness in metropolises: the perfect marriage of isolation and interconnection leaving a record

Vibrant city streets pull in the masses, advertising a prosperous and spirited social life to those who migrate from smaller, perhaps even rural, communities. However, national studies and censuses conclude that, despite the opportunities for connection major cities such as Toronto offer their residents, its populace is faced with a scourge of loneliness.
Eleanor Rigby is a visually isolating and highly auditory experience, exploring the stories of four anonymous individuals based in major cities across North America and around the world. The collection of research and testimonials will speak on the relationship between city-dwelling and loneliness; all that is captured on-camera will follow such interviews, granting an experimental approach which will highlight the detachment of the narratives brought forth.

Sabrina Soto: Producer
As a lover of art, Sabrina chose to study film and television as it correlates all art forms. She’s focusing on directing, writing and producing, but overall she likes to describe herself as a storyteller. There is nothing she loves more than the pre-production process and how films can bring stories to life. She jumped on board as producer for Eleanor Rigby, as it provides the beautiful opportunity to explore the collective stories of many. |
Jessica Whittingham: Director
Jessica: lover of all things film and nature. During her time at Sheridan College, she has remained a passionate writer and director, while also pursuing positions as a producer and camera-operator. Jess has dedicated herself to Eleanor Rigby, testing her creativity (and sanity, it seems) in her pursuits of exploring experimental, poetic filmmaking. |
Yevgeniy Vaskov: Director of Photography
Yevgeniy Vaskov is currently enrolled at Sheridan college for an Honours Bachelor of Film and Television. With a primary focus in camera and lighting he has taken on the responsibility of DOP for this documentary. Over the past year he has been creating Instagram stories that have given him an eye for capturing beauty in the normalcy around us. Familiar with loneliness, Yevgeniy hopes to visually support the personal stories of the wonderful strangers in Eleanor Rigby . |
Sofia Capista: Location Sound & Sound Editor
Majoring in sound production and writing at Sheridan College, Sofia is dedicated to creating an emotionally provoking sound design for any project that comes her way. She is thrilled to be working closely with Jess on Eleanor Rigby as a co-writer and soundie, incorporating new ways of poetic storytelling through sound. |
Brianna Duguay: Assistant Camera & Sound
By watching movies straight out of the womb, Bri has always been interested in the world of film. She is currently studying for an Honours Bachelor of Film and Television at Sheridan College. With camera and sound being her two main fields of focus, she has taken on the two roles of assistant camera and boom operator on Eleanor Rigby. She is super stoked to be working on this. |
