Emily O’brien was a victim of substance abuse and led a very controversial lifestyle, after being sentenced to prison she vowed to turn her life around. Once released she began to combat the stigma that ex-cons face everyday by starting her own popcorn business, rehabilitate her life by starting a new company that hires cons to get their lives back together This film will address her road to redemption. By sharing her story, she helps spread awareness of situations like this and allows people to become informed of the reality that ex-felons like Emily face. Now, she is the proud owner of a Hamilton based popcorn business called “Cons and Kernels”.

Clara is a third year Directing and Producing student. On Sentenced to Society she was our producer in charge of signing and submitting forms in order to make this project possible.

Nicole is a third year Directing and Editing student. She directed Sentenced To Society, she contacted and interviewed the subject as well as worked closely with her editor and cinematographer to create the finished product. She aspires to one day direct her own film or edit a TV show or movie.

Katja is a third year Cinematography and Directing student. She was the Director of Photography for Sentenced to Society and worked with Nicole and Joel to figure out a storyboard and shot list and help make this film visually appealing. She aspires to become a Cinematographer for a documentary film or narrative.

Joel is a third year Editing and Cinematography student. On set, he helped Katja with the camera as a Camera Assistant, and was also Prop Master for the second day shoot recreations. He aspires to be a production designer/costume designer for films and tv focusing on period pieces

Michelle is a third year Sound and Editing student. For Sentenced To Society she was our Sound Mixer and is going to be working on Post-Production Sound Editing. When she graduates she aspires to work on post-production sound for films or work in live Television Broadcasting.
