Who You Say I Am
A Short Documentary
A young Christian mother is diagnosed with Stage 3 Terminal Brain Cancer. She then questions everything she has ever known about her faith and religious beliefs, while undergoing treatment for her life-threatening illness.
THE DOCUMENTARY
"I shall not die, but live and declare the works of the Lord." PSALM 118:17
Where is God when it hurts? Where is God when you feel like you are hopeless and have no control over your life? This is what our film will be exploring!
Gillian and Kersten not only lead others in ministry, continue to spread the word and love of the Lord, but they are always doing it with a smile despite whatever they may be facing! We want to be able to use this film to help others struggling with their faith, trust, and doubt in God, and use these two to speak from their personal testimonies to show God's love.
"Who You Say I Am" poses the question, is it possible to keep your religious beliefs and faith in God, when the worst possible thing you could ever imagine has happened to you? This tough question was asked of this young Christian mother named Gillian, who despite her strong religious beliefs, has to face the very human reality of her immediate pain and sickness.

GILLIAN AND KERSTEN FETH -
Kersten and Gillian are the lead pastors of The Collective Church. They are married and live in Milton, Ontario with their three awesome kids. They have both been passionate about ministry since they were teenagers. Kersten is born and raised in Canada and Gillian is from Scotland. They met and fell in love at a ministry school in Toronto and it was there that their journey began in leading young adults together. They love people and are passionate about seeing young adults connect with God in a real and tangible way. They love to do worship, teach and to help create a place for people to learn and grow into who they were created to be. They inspire others, by seeing them walk in an understanding of how crazy in love God is with them and how dedicated they are in their Christian faith. |
The Crew
Paige Van Zeben -
Director, Writer, Producer, Transmedia Producer This is an incredibly important documentary for me to make, as I am someone who has struggled with learning about God and faith. When people suffer through terrible misfortunes, they often blame God or what they may think is a lack of God. It took me a really long time to understand that faith is about a relationship, not a religion and that God is never the one to blame. Being a Christian I hope to use my passion for filmmaking to create this documentary to inspire others who have suffered and questioned God, and show them that changing perspectives and having hope can change their life. Nathan Isings -
Assistant Director & Behind the Scenes Since I started at Sheridan and learning more about the filmmaking process, I’ve become more drawn to documentary work than I ever thought possible. Something about finding a story in our own world to tell in my own way appeals to me and my sense of purpose as an artist. This documentary is exciting for me, because we’re bringing a real story of faith and struggle to the screen and opening our audience’s perspective to something truly miraculous. Darren Summersby -
First Assistant Camera I am very excited to take part in this documentary. Being able to be involved in a film which is something that I have true passion for, and for this film to have to do with faith is so much better. Having come from a family where three members had suffered with cancer, our family depended a lot on faith to help us push through the tough times and work together as a family to be positive. I couldn’t be more happy to be apart of sharing Gillian’s story. |

Director of Photography, Editor, Transmedia Producer Film has been something I have always had a passion for. When choosing Sheridan, graduating after 4 years and doing the bare minimum was not the plan, but instead I push everyday to be different and reflect my ideas and beliefs in a way that effects people differently than any other form of media could, through Cinema. Being apart of this documentary is just one of the ways I am chasing after that passion. Not only sharing an incredible story of faith, but what do people do when they are stuck with a life or death diagnosis? I am so proud to be behind the lens of this documentary, to share a story of brokenness, faith and surrendering a feeling of hopelessness to someone bigger than yourself. Jacob Currie -
Second Assistant Camera & DMT As someone who has grown up in the church and who has also existed in a place where faith is rarely discussed, I feel very strongly about how important this documentary is to make. To share such an amazing story of a strong-faithed mother and follower of God throughout her immense troubles is amazing. By exploring faith and trust in God in such dark times, we hope to bring inspiration to those who view the doc, and share this incredible story to the world. Fiona Alvarez -
Sound Recordist & Mixer Being a part of this documentary means being a part of something that will inspire not only those who are struggling with their beliefs, but anyone who has a strong feeling of hopelessness. We have at some point in our lives, all felt hopeless and contemplated giving up. Gillian’s story will make people believe that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This documentary represents faith and hope and I am honoured to be a part of it. |

I have loved film ever since I was a kid. Growing up, I would always jump at the opportunity to document the world around me through film (or analog video). At Sheridan I am expanding my passion for film by working with, and learning from the talented people surrounding me. I am very excited to work in this documentary, and help document a beautiful story about faith and resilience.
