Shame is a lie.

|
ReVULVAlution is a short documentary that explores female sexuality and the importance of sexual education. In our culture, sex is almost exclusively focused on the enjoyment of men, while women are encouraged to see sex as shameful. This shame stems from a non-existence of any acknowledgement of the woman sexual experience or journey. It’s important to create an open dialogue about sex to make it less shameful and scary for young girls and women. Every time a woman has sex or explores her sexuality on her own for her own pleasure, that is absolutely revolutionary. That is an act that pushes away the ideology that women exist for reproduction and for men’s pleasure, that sex is given to men. Women who prioritize her sexual needs, prioritize herself. Veronica Kazoleas was a psychologist studying female sexuality, and found that women don’t always feel empowered to fully express themselves in the bedroom, saying “There’s still this underlying notion that women can’t want sex, that it’s something that’s given to men.” Then she opened The Nookie Shop in downtown Toronto. A sex shop by a woman made for women, as well as a safe place for women to learn about sex and their desires without feeling pressured to be sexy or solely educated about men’s pleasure, but for their own. knowledge and education for women, and be a supportive area to learn about their sexuality. We wanted to create a film that aims to fight the stigma around female sexuality, and we believe we have.
