Fear the Dark

There's never anything in the dark, so why are you still scared of it?

Fear the Dark asks three subjects of different ages to tell a story of their experiences with the dark. This docudrama is mature, frightening and thrilling while also being educational.

The Team

Picture
Dennis Rankin - Director
The director helming the project, Dennis Rankin, has always been scared of the dark and loves the art of filmmaking, especially horror films. In love with the camera he hopes to bring a fun and wild ride for the viewers. When he was a child Dennis always had to shut his closet door across his bed because the darkness behind the crack would not let him sleep.

Emma Litchi - Producer
Emma Lichti is our producer of Fear the Dark. When she was young, she vividly remembers seeing and playing with her imaginary friend - a dark, silhouetted black man. At the time, she was happy. Thinking back, was it her imagination, or something else?
Picture
Samantha Tong - DOP
Our director of photography Samantha has always been scared of the dark and has never quite grown out of it. She's also not the biggest fan of horror movies. Yet she goes on walks in the dark hoping nothing is waiting for her.

Tommy Gareau - AC
Tommy Gareau is a third year Bachelor of Film and Television student. As camera assistant he is constantly looking for opportunities to improve his photography and lighting skills. A couple years ago Tommy was camping in Killarney Provincial Park. Sleeping in his tent late at night he heard branches snap and heavy breathing coming from right outside his tent. Staying as quiet as possible, Tommy waited for the noises to subside. Was it a bear he heard, or was it something else ?

Josh Floyd - Sound
The last time I was scared of the dark was when I traveled back home. It was my first night back and I arrived around 1 am. I couldn't sleep so I went outside to just look at the stars and I walked into the forest so it was pitch black (best for stargazing). It was dead silent because it had recently snowed and it absorbed any sounds from anything nearby. All of a sudden I heard an audible crack of something stepping on a branch, then I heard another. Hearing a wolf pack howling are not uncommon where I live, so my mind immediately went to that. Even knowing rationally that wolves don't come that close to our house, it scared me enough to make me go back inside and go to bed.
