Cure from the Dalek
Mark Townsend puts his hobby of building Dalek replicas from BBC's 'Doctor Who' to good use - raising money from fans at conventions to be donated for charitable causes.
Mark Townsend, an aircraft designer/manufacturer and owner of the company Can-Zac Aviation, builds life size replicas of 'Doctor Who's' antagonist the Dalek's during his spare time.
Mark’s work on building Dalek's began with his son as a hobby, beginning with the recreation of a Dalek from a cancelled 'Doctor Who' reunion. His work on recreation is not the easiest, experiencing problems with the expensive cost of production. The documentary opens with Mark getting ready for his appearance at the Hamilton Comic Con, followed by B-roll footage of Mark and the Dalek’s interacting with fans. Mark’s voice continues to narrate what is happening and comic-con's significance to his work. During this Mark will speak about how he works and problems he faces, focusing on problems in production of the Daleks, from design issues to technical problems. The documentary will then focus on how he is using his creation to raise money for Sick Kids Hospital. This will be done through footage from the convention that shows him collecting money through use of his Daleks. Through this, viewers will start to see reasons as to why he invests so much time and money. It will end off with Mark telling us his final wish on the growth of his charity. |
